Read MoreThe Whitewater Rescue Technician - Recreational (WRT-Rec) course is for recreational paddlers who wish to have a rescue capability while paddling or in a whitewater environment with their peers.
Read MoreThis course builds on the skills learned in the Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technician (SRT), taking the students beyond the emphasis on self-rescue to concentrate on victim rescue. Students are exposed to more complex water rescue situations including a mock night river rescue scenario. The three day course includes 4-6 hours of classroom instruction, followed by two and one-half days of hands-on skill development.
Read MoreA classroom-based course, that looks at the hazards and risk associated with inland (lakes, canals, rivers) and coastal water. It looks at basic control measures and safe working practices that can be introduced, including types of PPE and their use. The SWNW course is designed for industry, civil engineering, and other workers near water. The comparable course for those supporting rescue teams is Water and Flood Awareness (AWR).
Read MoreThis course providers the knowledge and techniques to allow employees to provide bank-based rescue cover for their colleagues working next to basic water environments (e.g., small lakes, canals, sheltered harbors, and marinas where use of a powered safety boat is not required).
The equivalent course for rescue teams is Basic Water First Responder (BWFR)
Read MoreThis course providers the knowledge and techniques to allow employees to provide bank-based rescue cover for their colleagues working next to moving water (inland rivers, confined tidal flows) where use of a powered safety boat is not required.
Read MoreThe Rescue from Vehicles in Water workshop is a specialist course for Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technicians that explores the skills required to deal with car related rescues in Swiftwater and Floods. The course looks at vehicle behavior and stabilization in water, as well as access techniques and victim extrication. Vehicle hydrology, glass management, anchors, and weight transfer are all addressed in this two day, hands on clinic.
Read MoreThe half-day course is based on international best practice, including the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council’s river safety resources and covers river crossing decision making, shallow water crossing techniques (solo and group), river swimming survival techniques, use of throw-bags and where required, pack floats and wader safety drills are covered. This course is aimed at recreational users only.
Read MoreThis one day course assists organizations who’s workers may work around flood water, such as road contractors, storm water contractors, flood engineers, and vehicle break down services. We still advocate that the public should never drive in flood water, but while the public hopefully stay indoors during flood events, many critical services such as storm water, roads and other utilities still have to operate and do so as part of mitigating the flooding event. Such critical services need basic training to work safely around flood water.
Read MoreWith a curriculum designed by international experts, this one day course is specially-designed for those already certified to the Swiftwater Rescue Technician level (current certification required). It explores the complexities and techniques of body recovery from shallow depth swiftwater environments.
Read MoreThis assessment provides independent verification of a student’s qualification as an NFPA 1006 Swiftwater and Rope Rescue Technician under NFPA 1006. This assessment is not an instructional course, but rather is a place for fully trained rescuers to prove their competency.
Read MoreThe Flood Operations course was designed to provide emergency planners and emergency workers with the necessary knowledge and techniques to enable them to assess and work in flood environments. Flood Operations is perfect for those who will be working in heavy flood conditions, such as hydrologists, dam workers, road workers, and utilities repair workers. The course is a mixture of theory input and in-water practical sessions.
Read MoreThis four day course examines the initial first response actions to be undertaken, progressing through to extended searching activities, and concludes with search suspension considerations.
Read MoreThe FMNES course is designed for managers of non-emergency services during flood events, for example, managers of utilities, road workers, and transport companies. Topics covered include operating safely in flood zones, equipment needs, pre-planning, risk management, and multi-agency flood planning.
Read MoreFor personnel who will operate in the warm zone at a water rescue incident and personnel who will operate near water as part of their key job function (e.g., construction workers, EA water hydrometry staff, etc.) As such, it is not intended that they will enter the water, and a manual or auto inflation lifejacket is worn as PPE for accidental water entry only.
Read MoreThe Inland Advanced module, a one day upgrade, is the next step in developing the complete rescue swimmer. The swimmer will spend time learning the techniques and strategies for search and rescue of victims in a slow moving water environment such as large rivers or bays. The management of large events such as plane crashes, boating and commuter incidents will also be discussed. The swimmer will continue to improve safety and survivability of the responder with orientation to helicopter operations to include emergency egress drills and the use of spare air devices.
Read MoreThe Coastal Basic module is a one day upgrade and is designed for the responder who is responsible for search and rescue operations on the coastal water fronts. Here the Rescue Swimmer will learn a combination of basic lifeguarding techniques combined with the essentials of inland rescue. The course will cover the water dynamics which occur in the water effected by tide and surf. The swimmer will learn techniques to swimming efficiently and effectively with a continued focus on victim management.
